You’re Never Too Big To Be Kind

Oswaldo Cabrera & Billy Pinckney at Yankee Stadium in 2024
It was yet another powerful reminder to cherish every single moment spent on the field.
Recently, during what seemed like a routine play at home plate in Seattle, New York Yankees infielder Oswaldo Cabrera collapsed in pain after suffering a severe ankle fracture. In an instant, a single play turned into a career-altering injury—one that will demand immense perseverance and a long, difficult road to recovery.
Oswaldo is more than just a talented ballplayer. He’s one of the good ones—an energetic, positive force in the Yankees clubhouse who played the game with passion and joy. He made it a point to treat fans like family, always stopping to sign autographs, share a smile, or offer a word of encouragement. His warmth wasn’t just for the cameras—it was real, consistent, and deeply felt.
Ask longtime Yankees executive Ray Negron, and he’ll tell you: Oswaldo carries that same spirit into the community. Whether visiting schools or visiting kids in New York City, he treats every child he meets with kindness, dignity, and genuine care.
Whenever I see Oswaldo he makes sure to say hello and treats me like an old buddy.
There’s a lesson in his story that goes beyond baseball: no one is too important, too successful, or too busy to be kind. Titles and status are temporary. Character endures. Each of us, no matter where we are in life, has the ability to lift others up—to show compassion, to lead with heart, and to make someone else’s day a little brighter.
In the face of adversity, Oswaldo Cabrera reminds us what really matters: gratitude, resilience, and the power of a good heart.
I have no doubt that he will bounce back and return to the field as soon as he's able. He’s the kind of teammate who leads by example—driven not just to play for his own statistics, but to positively shape the team’s culture.
Do what is right, not what is easy nor what is popular.
