What’s Your Magnetic Field?

Billy Pinckney & Ray Negron at Yankee Stadium on June 27, 2025.

Several days ago, I found myself reflecting on how this all began—my journey into the world of professional baseball. I was just 11 years old when I became a batboy. When people ask how it started, I think of it not as a moment, but as a force—like a magnetic field. I didn’t stumble into it. I was pulled—drawn so strongly toward this world of baseball, purpose, and people.

Last week, as I walked through the gates of Yankee Stadium, those feelings came rushing back. I had a chance to spend time with Ray Negron, a legendary Yankees batboy who’s now an executive with the organization. In our conversation, he said something that stuck with me:

“It’s not work being here at the ballpark. This is baseball. We’re at the ballpark.”

That perspective hit home. When you're aligned with your calling, it doesn’t feel like a grind. It feels like purpose. Like joy. Like you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be.

So, let me ask you a question:

What’s your magnetic field?

What are you being pulled toward so strongly that it doesn’t feel like work? What lights you up on the inside? What do you feel called to do?

And just as important—who are the people you’re attracting into your life? What kind of habits orbit around your field? Because whatever you’re drawn to, and whoever is drawn to you, they’re shaping your story, whether you realize it or not.

Baseball may have been the field that pulled me in—but the bigger lesson is universal: when you feel that pull, follow it. That’s where the magic lives.

So I’ll leave you with this: Find your field. Embrace the pull. And don’t be afraid to step into the blessing.

Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant.
