Be a Light in a World of Empty Promises

In a world where so many people talk without action, be a light.
This phrase has been heavy on my heart latelyā¦not because Iāve got it all figured out, but because Iāve had to remind myself of it time and time again.
Throughout my young career in sports media, Iāve been incredibly blessed to meet some amazing people. From mentors and industry veterans to peers who push me to be better, Iām so grateful for the relationships Iāve built. These are the people who give you honest feedback, cheer you on without expectation, and show you what integrity looks like.
But recently, Iāve also been confronted with something thatās far too common in our world: empty promises.
Several times this year, Iāve had opportunities presented to me. Some that seemed like they could be game-changing. But when it came time to execute, those doors never opened. The energy disappeared. The communication stopped. What started with enthusiasm ended in silence.
I want to be clear: this isnāt a complaint. Itās not bitterness. Itās a reality I think more people, especially young professionals, need to hear. Because when youāre just getting started in your career, itās easy to think youāre doing something wrong when things fall through. But the truth is, not everyone operates with the same level of professionalism or character.
And unfortunately, in many creative and competitive industries, talking a big game without follow-through has become normal. That doesnāt mean you should lower your standards. In fact, itās all the more reason to raise them.
In everything I do, I strive to be a person who honors my word. Whether itās showing up on time, delivering what I promised, or having the uncomfortable conversation when something canāt move forward, I believe thatās how trust is built.
When I encounter people who donāt operate that way, I still choose professionalism. I still lead with faith. I still keep my energy aligned with the higher purpose Iām walking in⦠knowing that God is in control, even when people arenāt.
Iāve also had conversations with other young professionals in the space who feel the same frustration. Theyāve told me how theyāve been promised interviews, internships, collaborations, and jobs that never materialized. Itās a tough situation to navigate, and honestly, it can be pretty discouraging.
But if thatās you, I just want to say: Donāt let the broken promises of others cause you to shrink or stop. Let it refine your focus. Let it sharpen your sense of mission. Let it push you to be the kind of person who doesnāt just talk about being a light, but lives it.
You never know whoās watching your consistency.
You never know who youāre inspiring just by doing things the right way.
So keep going.
Keep building.
Keep showing up with excellence, humility, and grit.
The world doesnāt need more noise. It needs more people who mean what they say, and say what they mean.
Be that person. Be a light.
āFor I know the plans I have for you,ā declares the Lord, āplans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.ā
