An Unforgettable Author Visit: Inspiring Students with Billy the Batboy

Billy Pinckney speaking with students of North Wales Elementary School in September, 2025.

I had the absolute pleasure of visiting North Wales Elementary School in Pennsylvania to read the Billy the Batboy Children’s Books to an incredible group of students. There’s something special about walking into a classroom full of eager young minds and seeing their faces light up with excitement. Moments like these remind me why I write: to inspire, entertain, and share important lessons with the next generation.

During my visit, I shared one key message that I hope will stick with the students for a lifetime: always be kind to the people you interact with. Life is full of challenges, and you never really know what someone else might be going through. We all have the opportunity to be a leader simply by showing respect and compassion. If you see someone struggling, don’t hesitate to talk to them and see how you can help. No one is ever too “cool” to lend a hand, offer encouragement, or be there for someone in their time of need.

What truly stood out to me was the energy in the room. The curiosity, enthusiasm, and openness of these students was absolutely infectious. It’s a reminder of the power of child-like wonder and positivity - something I wish more adults carried into their everyday lives!

Visits like this are always a two-way street. While I hope the students take away lessons of kindness, leadership, and hard work, I also leave inspired by their joy, questions, and fresh perspectives. Sharing these moments and seeing stories come to life in the hands of young readers is a privilege I never take for granted.

For educators or parents in New Jersey or the New York tri-state area, I would love the opportunity to bring the Billy the Batboy lessons to your school. It’s not just about reading a story - it’s about creating an interactive experience where students learn about leadership, respect, and the importance of lifting others up.
